Our story
Paul Clout Design is a private residential building design practice. Founded in 1984, now in its second generation under the Clout family. The work is undertaken by commission, one residence at a time.
Our families commission residences that are quiet, considered, and one-of-one. Each is treated as a complete work — from siting and building design through interior, furnishing and finish — and handled with the discretion appropriate to a private home.
We work in a modernist tradition shaped by Asian and South Pacific design. Open plan. Deep eaves. Water and breeze treated as building materials. The work is recognisable, but never the same twice.

Continuity
Founded by Paul Clout, the practice is now led by Jared and Jayden Clout alongside the original team. A residence designed by the family today carries forty years of accumulated practice.
One thing, done well
We design private residences, and little else. The focus is the point.
